So you aren’t a gas guy huh?  You like the smell and taste of some meat cooked over an open flame fueled by a bag of Kingsford.  We get it…nothing beats a good charcoal grill.  Tailgating with charcoal isn’t always the easiest so we have put together this guide on what we feel are the best charcoal tailgate grills for sporting at your next tailgating event.  Please remember that when you choose a charcoal grill to tailgate with that you need to give yourself plenty of time to allow the grill to cool down before putting it in your car, truck or SUV to travel home.  This is very important!

The Weber 14401001 Original Kettle Premium Charcoal Grill, 22-Inch, Black is hands down my favorite charcoal grill to cook on.  For the price I do not think there is a better grill on the market.  This would be the perfect charcoal tailgate grill to add to your next tailgating party.  This thing cooks like a Weber because it is.  With the iconic round black ‘kettle’ bottom this charcoal tailgate grill can be used to grill and smoke.  With the number of Weber accessories that are on the market you can do just about anything with this grill.

Weber 40020 Smokey Joe Premium 14-Inch Portable Grill

The Weber 40020 Smokey Joe Premium 14-Inch Portable Grill made it on our list for the Best Portable Tailgate Grills and has also made the list for the Best Charcoal Tailgate Grills.  This guys is so versatile because of its size.  Like its bigger brother, the Smokey Joe is a Weber from top to bottom.  It cooks just like the bigger kettle version Weber but comes in a much smaller package.  While you will not be able to cook as  much on the Smokey Joe, the trade off is well worth it to be able to fit your tailgate cooler full of beer and meat.  We highly recommend this grill if you do not have the space for its bigger brother but charcoal grilling is what you want at your next tailgate.

Portable Kitchen PK 99740 Cast Aluminum Grill and Smoker

Also making its second appearance in our Best Tailgate Grills guide is the Portable Kitchen PK 99740 Cast Aluminum Grill and Smoker.  This charcoal tailgate grill is extremely portable and extremely well built.  It can be taken off the stand very easily to travel with and then put back on to cook when you get to your tailgate space.  I still personally prefer the Weber over this PK grill but you cannot deny that this grill is well built and will stand the test of time.

Weber Smokey Joe 14-inch Portable Grill

The Char-Griller 2828 Pro Deluxe Charcoal Grill has a 580 square inch grilling surface with an additional 250 square inch warming rack on top.  This lightweight charcoal grill will do the trick for any tailgate food you want to throw on it.  This is definitely going to need some extra room in the back of your vehicle and will more than likely require a truck or open bed to transport it in.  It does have an easy dump ash pan so that clean up should be a bit easier at the end of the day.
